Facebook is the number one form of social media for small companies that want to connect with their customers, according to a YouGov survey.
LinkedIn is just behind with a quarter of the share, around one-in-five (21 per cent) use Twitter, whilst YouTube only picks up 10 per cent of the vote.
However, in many cases, individual SMEs use multiple forms of social media, as the poll found that more than half have never used it to promote their business. Regionally, the take-up has been worse in the north of England, where two-thirds (64 per cent) have never reaped the benefits of social media interaction.
Of those small companies who do use Facebook and the like, nearly seven-in-ten (68 per cent) promote products, whilst just one-in-five (21 per cent) utilise it to promote discounts, promotions and special offers.
