Flexible working to avoid lost commute time

24 January 2012

Commuters in the UK are wasting a total of 100 million working days each year as a result of being stuck in traffic – something that can be avoided with the rollout of flexible working practices.

Continental Tyres has found that over the course of their lifetime, each person who drives into work spends 58 working weeks sat in traffic jams going to or from work, with the average commute involving a 28-mile round trip that lasts 41 minutes including 12 minutes of delays.

Tim Bailey from Continental notes that "for individuals it means frustration but for the economy as a whole it means lost productivity and increased emissions, so it remains a key issue to tackle."

One way to do this is provide flexible working options to staff, which can include a link to the business broadband and portable hardware like laptops and tablets. To find out how your company can up its productivity like this, get in touch with TalkTalk Business today.
