Internet access services tend to be cheaper than Managed IPVPN access services and come with less restrictive contracts. A company is not restricted to using a single supplier for their internet VPN, although there is performance and management benefits from doing so, which provide a great degree of control over deployment.
For small numbers of sites spread over a wide geographical area, where there is a need for flexibility and to reduce costs, an internet VPN can be a highly effective WAN solution.
