Private networks are often highly scalable in terms of raw capacity. Over metropolitan distances, 100Mbps or even 1Gbps Ethernet services do not attract long distance bandwidth charges, making them excellent value for money. However, as the number of sites increases, private networks become inflexible and the choice of access technology is limited compared to Managed IPVPN and internet VPNs; limiting the ideal maximum number of sites to five or six.
