Leased lines

Leased lines cover traditional fixed circuit technology and next generation Ethernet services. Usually deployed over dedicated fibre optic cables, leased lines are important for sites requiring reliable access to internet and/or Managed IPVPN networks – or simply to another site in their business IT network.

Leased lines

Unlike most broadband services, leased lines do not rely on complex packet networking, so they tend to be simple, reliable and highly predictable in terms of performance.

Ideal if…

  • Your site needs constant high capacity access to the internet or a Managed IPVPN network.
  • You need excellent up time and fix time SLAs.
  • Internet access is critical to your business.
  • You have a head office supporting a number of branch sites where up time is critical.
  • You need a good degree of control over IT network traffic and performance planning.

Scalable: connection speeds available from 2Mbps up to 1Gbps.

Uncontended: your own dedicated connection with guaranteed bandwidth and predictable high performance.

Control: management reports allow you to monitor the performance of your connection.

Flexibility: a reliable and dedicated connection, with the flexibility of fixed and tiered solutions, to meet your changing needs; so that you only pay for what you need – and can increase capacity at any time without making disruptive physical changes to your IT network.

Support: an enhanced SLA ensures your business critical applications receive 24/7 support. Unlike broadband services, leased lines offer a far greater degree of up time and generally attract 4-5 hour fix-time SLAs as standard.

Here are typical examples of how leased lines can be used:

1. A retail organisation supports 20 shops from a single head office. Their WAN was based on broadband technology and the head office was suffering infrequent, but devastating, outages; because when the line failed, the entire network failed and business halted. By using a leased line at the head office, combined with a broadband line as a resilient secondary circuit, we were able to provide a solid foundation for the business to thrive and grow.

2. A housing association in the South West had opted for a symmetrical broadband service for their internet access, because they considered leased lines to be out of their league. Our next generation Ethernet services happened to have a node that was just down the road, as a result of massive investment in our network. This affordably increased their head office capacity from a congested 2Mbps to 100Mbps, and allowed the housing association to take advantage of new applications, like video conference and IP telephony, that had been previously unavailable.
