Whenever we sent information across our congested network, it seemed to take an age, frustrating my team and leaving us with the challenge of rethinking our architecture. It became clear that our bakery had outgrown its existing network. All three of our sites were using DSL to connect to a VPN, which was placing a strain on the business and starting to affect our performance. The worst hit site was the core bakery itself, as staff needed to access business critical systems hosted at the head office but with unpredictable connectivity and unplanned downtime, the ripples were being felt company wide.
The Solution
By implementing a new IPVPN, communications between the head office and our satellite stores are superfast and robust, supporting our POS systems far more effectively and unifying our store voice and data communications. By delivering more bandwidth, the business critical data now flows easily between the various stores, while resilience has been added with both a leased line and DSL circuit at the head office. By using Opal’s MPLS core, the new network prioritises critical traffic, such as ERP and VoIP, guaranteeing a more decent call quality through Quality of Service. They now have a stable and reliable operating environment upon which the business can grow, allowing it to run new applications or deal with rising traffic demands and even better, resource is no longer being swallowed up by trying to solve the network issues.
