Consistent Symmetrical Speeds
The service remains consistent if a component line fails.
A simple proposition that’s easy to price compared to many competitors.
Available from all TalkTalk Business Exchanges.
A lower cost product than Ethernet Access Direct and also a great alternative if Ethernet over Fibre isn't available.
Provides symmetric bandwidth.
Available on 1 or 3 year contracts.
A great option if Excess Construction Charges (ECCs) or complex wayleaves are needed for traditional fibre products.
Great for internet and MPLS IPVPN services at targeted sites with lower bandwidth needs.
What is Ethernet in the First Mile?
Ethernet in the First mile is an affordable way to achieve greater, guaranteed symmetric bandwidth than is available using broadband, whilst maintaining an Ethernet handover interface.
It can reach speeds of up to 10 or 20 Mbps. Thanks to these identical upload and download speeds, EFM can support the VoIP and hosted solutions most businesses need.
The service is delivered using multiple standard copper telephone lines either in a bundle of 2 or 4 lines to build a single service. SDSL rather and ADSL is used to provide a symmetric service. A 2 pair may run up to 10Mb and a 4 pair may run up to 20Mb depending on the length of the copper. An on-site box then ‘bonds’ these multiple SDSL services into a single Ethernet service making it easier for you, the customer. The box will handle line failures to maintain uptime should one of the copper lines fail but it leads to a degradation of service.
Installation is up to 45 or 90 days depending on circumstances.
We understand that you need to be online for your customers and employees. We’re here to ensure you are always connected with our 24x7 UK based business experts.
We offer an enhanced 7 hour fast fix service.
Available as a symmetric service up to 10Mb or 20Mb depending on length, quality and number of copper lines used.
We have a simple, two-point pricing structure making financial planning easy. Couple this with no distance or usage charges either and availability on the largest EFM network in the UK, we can offer low cost EFM to more locations than other providers.
EFM has a degree of inherent resilience but if your business requires greater uptime, we can also offer secondary circuits.
Ethernet in the First Mile is available on 1 or 3 year contracts.
Our business offering is reliant on connectivity. With over 100 mobile engineers across the UK on 24-hour call to serve our customers, we needed a robust and reliable network design that maximises uptime across each of our sites. TalkTalk Business’ tailored proposition and service wrap has provided exactly that. And then some!

Working with Openreach to improve the speed of provisioning of new Ethernet orders
In my last blog, I explained how TalkTalk Business is working more closely with Openreach to improve the Ethernet installation timescales for our customers and the industry as a whole.
On-site vs Hosted Phone System, should you care?
Recently phone systems have transitioned through a major technology shift from most businesses having a physical phone system on site to an option where everything can be stored in the Cloud.
Fullers was looking to connect multiple sites securely and consistently, whilst reducing costs, rationalising suppliers and simplifying support processes.
With an MPLS IPVPN wide area networking (WAN) solution deployed over EFM, the business can now rely on the superior network performance it needs, while enabling fast and secure data transfer between all its UK sites.
Increasingly, businesses are moving critical infrastructure online, making them more vulnerable to digital threats.
